Willowbrook Country House was previously a member of the prestigious Relais & Châteaux organisation but has now become a 4-star hotel. However, I think it is more of a B&B as there are limited reception hours and service.
While I liked the beautiful room and found the Italian manager, Lisa, very friendly, I was disappointed with some details. The internet signal was so weak it can’t work on mobile phones in the room. You must go close to reception to reach the signal, but standing and working for hours is difficult. The hotel is by no means a business hotel.
The minibar is one of the most expensive I recalled in South Africa. You can get a bottle of water for four rands at the supermarkets in South Africa, but at Willowbrook, you have to pay 25. Finally, the noise level was unpleasant. I could hear the guest next door snore at night, and it wasn’t nice.
In my opinion, Willowbrook is a B&B with beautiful rooms, and could be a great place to stay for many that don’t mind the lack of good internet in the room, high mini-bar prices and don’t mind some level of noise.
