Landgoed Duin & Kruidberg

Duin & Kruidberg is an estate of more than 100 years of age with a Michelin-starred restaurant as the main attraction. In 2002, the hotel opened to the general public, and they established the restaurant, De Vrienden van Jacob. Less than five years later it was awarded one Michelin star and has kept it ever since.

My experience at Landgoed Duin & Kruidberg started with a warm welcome from the friendly, smiling receptionist. I stayed in a large room with a classical design, comfortable bed, complimentary mini-bar and Wi-Fi access. I then went for a walk in the nearby national park and enjoyed the beautiful surroundings at the stunning estate.

De Vrienden van Jacob is the main reason to come here. A well-deserved Michelin star for both the food and the service. Head chef Alain Alders welcomed guests at the table including me, and I enjoyed two courses in the kitchen itself as part of the experience. Based on my many experiences at gourmet restaurants, I would say one Michelin star is the absolute minimum for this restaurant. GaultMillau awarded the restaurant 16 out of 20 points, and I’m sure the restaurant would have had a second star if it was located in France.

The quality of the food, the ingredients and the creativity were up to a high level. Located close to Amsterdam and with a train station within walking distance, Landgoed Duin & Kruidberg is great for a day visit for excellent food, or for an overnight stay in one of their classical rooms. Overall very satisfied with my visit and I highly recommend including it on any trip to the Netherlands.

My opinion: Great experience.
