Kanda Residences, Koh Samui

Kanda Residences, situated on a secluded hillside overlooking the Gulf of Thailand, offers luxurious private villas with panoramic ocean views. My arrival experience: Warm welcome with a drink before being escorted to the room.

What I Liked the Most: The beautiful pool villa I stayed in.

What about the food: The food was a mixed experience. The Japanese food, especially the sushi, was quite good, while the Western food wasn’t.

What about the service: While it isn’t top professional like in a leading chain hotel, it was personal, kind and warm from the smiling staff. Attention to detail is lacking, but I have experienced that often at independent properties in Asia.

What about the rooms? Impressive pool villas with a large private swimming pool. The design is Thai style, and the bathroom has a separate rain shower from the bathtub. The missing attention to detail comes to mind in the bathroom, where there was no bath salt and a really bad Shampoo, shower gel, and conditioner product. The kitchen and living room are good for families wanting to cook for themselves.

Location: Koh Samui, Thailand.

Facilities: Swimming pool, gym, and spa, where I had a good treatment, but again, with lacking attention to detail. There was no choice of oil and no form beforehand to personalize the massage. It is one of the only spas I have been to without that, and it should be expected for a resort with rates as high as this one.

My overall impression: Good+ experience. Great for families that don’t need extraordinary food and service, but private and cook for themselves.
