Sofitel Hangzhou Westlake

Sofitel Hangzhou Westlake sits in one of the most practical locations in Hangzhou: close to West Lake, but still very much in the city. The hotel is on West Lake Avenue in Shangcheng District, with the lake, shopping areas and central Hangzhou all within easy reach. For many visitors, this is the main reason to stay here. Hangzhou is a city where location matters, especially if the plan is to walk by the lake early in the morning, visit local sights, or return easily after dinner.
The hotel is part of Sofitel, the French luxury brand under Accor, and is officially listed as a five-star property. It has 233 rooms and suites, with a design that combines Chinese details with a French hotel style. The standard rooms start at around 35 square metres, while larger options include luxury rooms, junior suites and prestige suites. Some rooms offer city views, and the higher categories add more space and club-style benefits.
Transport is relatively simple. According to Accor, the hotel is about five minutes on foot from Metro Line 1, around 10 minutes by car from Hangzhou City Railway Station, 30 minutes from Hangzhou East Railway Station and about 40 minutes from Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport. That makes it useful not only for leisure travellers, but also for people passing through Hangzhou by train or arriving by air.
Food is another part of the property’s identity. The hotel’s restaurants focus on both international cooking and Hangzhou cuisine, giving guests the choice between familiar hotel dining and local flavours. Hangzhou is well known for its food culture, including dishes linked to West Lake, so a hotel in this location naturally benefits from being close to one of China’s strongest regional culinary traditions.
One of the more distinctive spaces at the property is the rooftop Sky Garden Lounge, which offers views over West Lake and the city. This is one of the hotel’s strongest selling points, especially because many hotels near famous landmarks do not always have a clear viewpoint of the attraction itself. Sofitel Hangzhou Westlake also has a terrace with a 180-degree West Lake view, as well as a ballroom with natural daylight, which makes the hotel suitable for private events, meetings and weddings.
The facilities include a heated swimming pool, fitness centre and spa. The spa is described as being inspired by Balinese healing traditions, with massage and treatment options aimed at relaxation after sightseeing or business meetings. For meetings and events, the hotel lists four meeting rooms, with the largest space measuring 310 square metres and a maximum seated capacity of 190 guests.
Sofitel Hangzhou Westlake is not a new boutique-style hotel, and some travellers may find parts of the property more traditional than ultra-modern. Its strength is not novelty, but position, space and convenience. For visitors who want to be close to West Lake, stay in an international five-star hotel, and have easy access to transport, restaurants, meeting rooms and wellness facilities, it remains one of the most established choices in central Hangzhou.
