Velassaru Maldives

Velassaru Maldives whispers luxury with its overwater bungalows and beachfront villas. This Maldivian paradise offers tranquillity on a private island. Imagine waking to turquoise waters, enjoying blissful spa treatments, and savouring romantic sunsets. Explore the vibrant underwater world or simply relax on pristine beaches. Velassaru promises an unforgettable Maldivian escape.

Below is my experience based on a one-night stay at the property.

The arrival experience: Warm welcome from the staff, including Myla, the Marketing & Communications Manager.
What I liked the most? The service and the villa.
What about the food? Overall satisfied with the food, but if great food is a priority, I recommend their partner resort, Kurumba. You are limited to a buffet for breakfast, but I received great, fresh food from the kitchen by requesting it. The breakfast buffet ends at 10 AM, and Myla explained that their European guests like to get up at 7 AM and swim. I was surprised to hear this, and it’s very different from me, who likes the possibility of waking up at 10 and having breakfast. Keeping the breakfast open until 10:30 or 11, like other resorts, would be a way to improve the experience. If you eat fish, that might be a good choice, as they get it fresh. However,  I would recommend avoiding their fish ravioli. The taste and texture were very disappointing, but the staff handled it well and gave me a new dish.
What about the service? Great service in all areas of the resort, and this is where Velassaru deserves its SLH status, together with the extraordinary villas. I especially found the restaurant staff to be attentive and among the best in the country compared to the 50 other Maldivian resorts I had stayed at the time of first writing this article.
What about my villa? Beautiful villa with a comfortable bed, sitting area, flatscreen TV, double sink, private swimming pool and two rain showers, indoor and outdoor.
Number of rooms: 129.
Type of property: Resort.
Location: Maldives.
Facilities: Spa, gym and pool.
Complimentary internet? Yes, and fast enough for calls and videos. Impressive on a private island resort.
Affiliations: Small Luxury Hotels of the World.
My overall impression? Great experience. It’s an impressive resort where the food would be the only thing that didn’t meet my expectations, but they were high after the experience at Kurumba, which is probably one of the best or at least better Maldivian resorts when it comes to food.
