Fun Island, Maldives
Fun Island is a 3-star private island resort in the Maldives I visited for a site inspection some years ago. Fun Island has 75 rooms total including some that were newly renovated at the time. There are approximately 150 staff working on Fun Island with approximately 20 per cent foreigners according to one of the staff. Fun Island is a member of the Villa Hotels Maldives chain and has an ambition of being the best 3-star resort in the Maldives.
WiFi is free of charge but wasn’t available in the room they gave me for my short visit. I tested the speed near the reception, and it was slow with a download speed of 0.29 MB per second, but might not be an issue for many on holiday. On the other hand, Fun Island offers a free tour of Robinson Island for all guests, which was a big surprise to know as I didn’t expect it from a resort with such low rates.
The facilities include a watersports centre, a dive centre, a spa, a gym, two restaurants and two bars. In direct comparison to other resorts in the Villa Hotels Maldives portfolio, I found the food to be better here than at Sun Island, Holiday Island and Paradise Island, while the water villas at Paradise Island are probably the best accommodations the chain has to offer. The Maldives has something for different budgets, and it’s, of course, a different experience staying here than at a Four Seasons, but the crystal clear Indian Ocean and the white sandy beaches make it a good experience.
