Swell Lodge, Christmas Island
“Nestled in the jungle in the Christmas Island National Park, surrounded by wildlife and overlooking the ever-changing ocean, Swell Lodge is a single, glass-fronted, solar-powered, luxury eco-chalet offering all-inclusive stays with daily guided activities and even a private chef. It’s the world’s most exclusive eco-lodge.” – Swell Lodge’s website
So far, it’s just one unit, an eco-chalet nature-based tent-style accommodation with a comfortable bed, shower, toilet, sinks, couch, dining table, and a balcony with a stunning view. It was a special feeling stepping into the tent with its 180-degree view of the ocean from the glass windows that open out onto the private deck. Swell Lodge is a unique all-inclusive concept with daily guided activities and a private chef. Certainly something completely different from what Christmas Island has to offer.
Another aspect of Swell Lodge is its ecological footprint. It is 100% solar powered and the toilet is a composting toilet. All the amenities provided are ecologically friendly. I have slept in a luxurious tent before at an Oberoi property in India, but with the unique location, it felt very special to me, even after more than 1,000 hotels. I enjoyed the feeling of being in one with nature on an island many don’t know about and only a few tourists visit a year. It’s experiences like this that make travel so rewarding. The view from the balcony and the sound of birds and waves is not something you get to experience every day.
Below are photos of Swell Lodge including a photo of a nearby beach, I would recommend anyone to visit.
