What are three of your favourite travel moments, and why?

Playing football in the Serengeti with staff from a luxury resort
I later discovered that lions were resting not so far away, but were being closely monitored!

Helicopter flight over Everest
Witnessing the majesty of the world’s highest peak from above was incredible.

Shamwari Private Game Reserve in South Africa
Our luxury safari on the Shamwari Private Game Reserve in South Africa, which allows younger guests, was a moment to cherish as a family.

What are three of your worst travel moments, and why?

Having my camera stolen in Italy
Back in the days of 35mm film – was a moment I’d sooner forget. Thankfully it’s easier to save your photos as you go along nowadays!

A rental car accident in Tenerife
something I’d sooner forget even though it was over 30 years ago! The driver in front made a gesture out of his window – I wasn’t sure what it meant and was happy to sit behind the vehicle, but my passenger said he was waving me to overtake, so I went to make that manoeuvre, only to soon discover that he was actually doing a very poor hand signal to say he was turning left. Needless to say, it was a little bit messy.

Son for an X-ray
Having to take my son for an X-ray after an accident at a waterpark.

What are three of your best travel tips?

Pack less
Lightening the load enhances the travel experience and flexibility.

Immerse yourself and spend more time in one location
It’s much more rewarding than rushing.

Splurge on experiences
this creates lasting and fulfilling more travel memories. Much better than a souvenir!
