Pulitzer Amsterdam

The photo is provided by Pulitzer Amsterdam. It’s not the room I stayed in.

Pulitzer Amsterdam is part of Marriott’s Luxury Collection, and based on my previous experiences with the brand, I arrived with fairly high expectations. I stayed during peak season, and the hotel was fully booked, which undoubtedly affected parts of the experience. Unfortunately, I was assigned a standard room measuring just 18 square metres, with what may well be the smallest bathroom I have encountered in a five-star hotel. It felt cramped and poorly proportioned, and for a property of this stature, it was disappointing. On the positive side, the bed was very comfortable, the internet fast and reliable, and the flat-screen television generously sized.

Pulitzer is an impressive hotel in terms of scale and concept. Spread across 25 restored canal houses, it has a strong sense of history and place, and its public areas are well executed. The inner courtyards provide welcome breathing space, and the design successfully blends classic Dutch elements with a contemporary touch. Amsterdam is one of the best cities in Europe, and Pulitzer is a great option for a comfortable chain hotel with a great central location for exploring the Dutch capital on foot.
