Makunudu Island, Maldives
Located approximately 42km from Malé’s international airport on the North Male Atoll, Makunudu Island is a beautiful 4-star resort focusing on the natural experience. My experience started with a warm welcome by the Mauritian General Manager before being escorted to the room. I stayed in one of their authentic 36 beachfront villas that are crafted in traditional Maldivian style using local woods, stones and a palette of earthy hues according to their official website. It was unlike any other room I have stayed in the Maldives, which now includes more than 50 different island resorts. On the plus side, the bed was very comfortable, while the internet, on the other hand, was at a low speed. For many, it might not be a problem and instead be an opportunity to relax, unwind and unplug.
Makunudu Island is a reasonably priced 4-star resort in the Maldives, but in direct comparison with resorts like Paradise Island, Royal Island and Thulhagiri, the service and food are of better quality at Makunudu. In direct comparison, accommodation at Makunudu is good value compared to the mentioned resorts. Makunudu Island is a great and ideal choice for a natural, authentic and yet comfortable experience in the Maldives.
