Home Hotel Skagen Brygge, Stavanger
Home Hotel Skagen Brygge is a centrally located hotel in Stavanger, Norway, situated along the waterfront in the historic Skagen area of the city. The hotel forms part of the Skagen Brygge development, a well-known harbor-front area characterized by restored wooden warehouses, restaurants, and maritime activity. Its location places it within walking distance of Stavanger’s main commercial streets, cultural institutions, and transport connections, while maintaining close proximity to the sea.
The hotel is housed in former warehouse buildings that were originally used for maritime and commercial purposes. These structures have been adapted for hotel use while retaining much of their original character. Exposed wooden beams, solid construction materials, and references to the area’s seafaring past are visible throughout the property. The conversion reflects a broader effort in Stavanger to preserve and repurpose historic harbor buildings rather than replace them with new construction.
Home Hotel Skagen Brygge operates as a city hotel with a focus on comfort, accessibility, and included services rather than extensive facilities. It is part of the Home Hotel brand, which emphasizes a relaxed atmosphere and the inclusion of meals as part of the guest experience. The hotel is designed to function as a practical base for visitors to Stavanger, whether travelling for leisure or business.
Norway is one of my favourite countries in the world with its stunning nature and high quality of life. I arrived late at this hotel for a one-night stay as part of a road trip and was thankful to receive excellent service by Ingrid at the reception.
The hotel offers a range of guest rooms spread across several connected buildings along the quay. Due to the original warehouse structures, room sizes and layouts vary. Some rooms are more compact, while others are larger and may feature views of the harbor or nearby waterfront activity. The variation in layout reflects the original construction of the buildings rather than a standardized hotel plan.
All rooms are equipped with private bathrooms, beds designed for short and extended stays, desks or workspaces, storage, and wireless internet access. Interior design is functional and understated, using materials and colors that align with the maritime setting. The rooms prioritize comfort and usability rather than decorative detail. Some rooms include exposed wooden elements that reference the building’s original use, while others have a more modern finish. I stayed in a nice room with a great bed and a good shower.
Home Hotel Skagen Brygge includes meals as part of the stay, which is a defining feature of the Home Hotel concept. Breakfast is served daily and is included for all guests. In addition, the hotel offers an evening meal, often referred to as a light dinner or supper, which is also included in the room rate. This approach appeals to guests who prefer a predictable and straightforward stay without the need to plan all meals externally. I arrived too late for the dinner, but it’s an interesting concept and I don’t know of any other chain hotel groups than Home Hotels in Scandinavia that include an evening meal in the room rates.
In addition to dining facilities, the hotel provides common areas where guests can relax, work, or socialize. These spaces are used by both leisure and business travelers and are designed to support extended stays as well as short visits. The atmosphere in shared areas is generally calm, with a focus on practicality rather than luxury.
The hotel does not operate large leisure facilities such as a spa or swimming pool. Instead, its services are oriented toward accommodation, meals, and central access to the city. For guests interested in fitness or wellness, nearby facilities in Stavanger can be reached easily due to the hotel’s central location.
Home Hotel Skagen Brygge is well positioned for exploring Stavanger on foot. The city center, including shops, cafés, and cultural venues, is located nearby. Stavanger Cathedral, the Norwegian Petroleum Museum, and the harbor promenade are all within walking distance. The old town area, Gamle Stavanger, known for its preserved wooden houses, is also accessible on foot from the hotel.
The waterfront location provides direct access to the harbor environment, where ferries, boats, and maritime activity are visible throughout the day. This setting is a defining aspect of the hotel’s character and contributes to its appeal, particularly for guests interested in Stavanger’s relationship with the sea and offshore industries.
Public transportation options, including buses and ferries, are easily accessible from the hotel’s location. Stavanger Airport, Sola, is located approximately 15 kilometers from the city center and can be reached by airport bus or taxi. The hotel’s central position makes it convenient for guests arriving by public transport as well as those traveling by car, although parking availability may be limited due to the urban setting. I parked near the station.
The hotel attracts a mixed guest profile, including leisure travellers, business visitors, and guests attending conferences or events elsewhere in the city. While the hotel itself does not operate large conference facilities, its location near business districts and transport hubs makes it suitable for work-related travel.
Guest feedback commonly highlights the hotel’s location, included meals, and harbor setting. The variation in room layout is often noted, reflecting the adapted warehouse structures. Comfort and cleanliness are typically emphasized, along with the convenience of having breakfast and an evening meal included in the stay. The atmosphere is generally described as relaxed and functional rather than upscale.
Home Hotel Skagen Brygge operates as an active part of Stavanger’s waterfront environment rather than as a destination in itself. Its role is primarily to provide accommodation that supports access to the city and surrounding region. Over time, it has become a stable presence in the Skagen Brygge area, contributing to the continued use and preservation of Stavanger’s historic harbor buildings.
By combining central location, adapted historical structures, and an inclusive service model, Home Hotel Skagen Brygge offers accommodation that reflects both the practical needs of travellers and the maritime character of Stavanger.
