Hotel Landgoed Het Roode Koper
Hotel Landgoed Het Roode Koper is a country Dutch country hotel located near the town of Ermelo. A hotel I stayed back in December of 2011 and liked a lot. The Netherlands has a lot of similarities to Denmark and I like the fact I can drive there in a day. In 2011, I was especially impressed with the food and thought it was surprising they didn’t have a Michelin star. Now it’s a different story. Chef Dennis Van den Beld has received a Michelin-star and I was excited about returning to Het Roode Koper, not only for the food but for the entire experience this beautiful country estate has to offer.
In my travels around the world, I have mostly just stayed a night at hotels, but this time, as I liked the property a lot, I decided to try a long stay. Originally I planned for 18 nights, but my plans changed as I got a chance to visit a new territory and I stayed a week total. Like in 2011, I was impressed with the homely feel of the property, especially at the main building. Over the week, I got to stay in different rooms at the property, and I personally prefer to stay away from the main building and have a bigger room than the entry-level category of rooms. I liked many things about the property. One of them is the space. A total of approximately 3,000 hectares including a beautiful garden and a new addition since my last visit, the pool house with a beautiful swimming pool. Staying a week was a bit different than most of my hotel stays. I enjoyed talking to the staff more than once, and how they got to learn preferences. That’s a part of service I often don’t get to see when just staying one night.
Hotel Landgoed Het Roode Koper is a member of Relais &Châteaux, a French-based marketing organisation where food is a big priority. Like in 2011, food is one of the main reasons, if not the number one reason for a trip to this property. Excellent food with high-quality ingredients like you would expect at a Michelin-starred restaurant. I enjoyed my stay a lot and can highly recommend it to anyone looking for a truly great European country hotel.
