Marcliffe Hotel and Spa is the best hotel in the area of Aberdeen, located just outside the city centre and has a membership of Small Luxury Hotels of the World.
This 11-acre estate hotel experience started with a pick-up from the airport and after a 6-mile ride, I arrived to a warm welcome. After a short introduction to the hotel, I was escorted to the room by the bellboy. I stayed in an Executive Room which recently has replaced their TVs with flatscreen TVs which makes a beautiful room complete. A comfortable bed and complimentary, fast wifi were two other notes on the positive side. The bathroom had The White Company products.
Service is always the most important thing and with only 41 rooms the hotel has a perfect size to deliver personalized service. The reception is very professional and all the staff I talked to were very friendly and helpful. They all showed a great attitude including in the restaurant where I had a great dining experience. The restaurant was full as Marcliffe is well-known by the locals as one of the best places to dine. The stay ended with a great breakfast with high-quality local products and with an option to get your eggs the way you like them.
The bottom line is that Marcliffe surely is up to the SLH standards, but feels a little bit more like a Relais & Châteaux. It feels like a country hotel but has a unique location only a few miles from the city centre of Aberdeen. I love Scotland and would love to return to Marcliffe and I highly recommend it for a great, intimate hotel experience.
